The latest American Express Spending & Savings Tracker figures the average American will spend $710 on holiday gifts this year, while those who make $100,000 or more annually will spend $1,384. Looking at all age groups, toys and games came in second on the American Express list, behind clothing and accessories and ahead of electronics and gadgets.

'We've had some good sales up to this date,' said David Reed, manager of Toys R Us on New Haven Avenue in Melbourne. '"
